Billionaires Found a New Poll Tax—and It's Totally Legal
Back in 1966, the Supreme Court ruled in Harper v. Virginia that poll taxes are unconstitutional. You shouldn’t have to pay to vote—simple.
But here’s the billionaire workaround:
Make people pay for IDs to register.
Make them take time off work.
Make it cost gas money, hours in line, and bureaucratic headaches.
That’s not just voter suppression.
That’s a modern poll tax with a shiny new name.
And guess who bankrolls the laws that create these hurdles?
Billionaires.
The same folks who throw money behind “election integrity” bills that just so happen to disproportionately block poor, Black, brown, and young voters.
They don’t want everyone voting.
They want just enough of their people voting to keep their grip on power.
Because if the working class voted in full force?
The billionaire class wouldn’t stand a chance.
