Conservative Media Outraged a Teen Didn’t Let Himself Get Stabbed Quietly
"Stand Your Ground... Unless You're Not White?"
The right-wing outrage machine is cranking at full speed over the story of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf being killed by another 17-year-old, Carmelo Anthony—not that Carmelo Anthony, calm down boomers.
And as usual, conservative influencers are turning a tragedy into a racialized talking point faster than Fox can say “urban youth.”
Their version? Metcalf was a hero who asked a stranger to leave his tent, and was savagely attacked for no reason.
The actual story? A little more complicated—and inconvenient for their narrative.
According to multiple witnesses, Anthony was alone. Metcalf wasn’t. Anthony was told to leave a tent, warned them not to touch him, and was then... touched. Then grabbed. Then things escalated.
And here's where Texas law enters the chat.
Anthony’s defense? Self-defense. Stand Your Ground. You know, the exact same law conservatives love until someone darker than khaki cargo shorts invokes it.
Because, let’s be real: in Texas, if you're white and “stand your ground,” you're a patriot. If you're not? You're suddenly a thug with a weaponized hoodie.
Now, was it excessive? Possibly. Is it tragic? Absolutely.
But conservative media doesn't want to talk about the culture of aggression, the absurdity of Stand Your Ground laws, or how we keep giving teenagers deadly tools and deadly excuses.
They just want a scapegoat—and someone to fear.
So before this becomes another rallying cry for race-baiting Twitter rants, maybe ask:
Why are teens bringing knives to track meets? Why do they feel the need to? And why are we still pretending this is about "tent etiquette"?
Maybe let’s address those questions... instead of starting the culture war cosplay again.
