FDA Just Ghosted Milk Testing—So, Good Luck Out There
Quick heads up: as of yesterday, the FDA officially stopped testing the milk millions of people drink every day. Yes, the pasteurized, Grade A grocery store stuff. Why? Because they cut over 20,000 staff from their food safety division—and it shut down the lab responsible for screening milk for things like bird flu, cyclospora, and other charming pathogens.
And before you ask—no, there's no backup plan.
No transition. No safety net. Just milk roulette.
So what now?
1. Start label-checking like your life depends on it.
Look for:
USDA Organic
SQF (Safe Quality Food)
BRCGS (British Retail Consortium Global Standards)
These third-party audits are your new best friends.
2. Stalk your favorite brand’s website.
If they’re doing any in-house testing, quality control, or HACCP plans, they’ll brag about it.
If it’s silent? That silence is doing a lot of screaming.
3. Use your keyboard.
Email them. Ask directly. No testing? No thanks.
4. Stay alert for recalls.
Check FDA.gov or foodsafety.gov regularly.
If your milk’s showing up on that list like a bad ex, maybe cut it off.
The FDA may have tapped out—but we can’t.
This isn't fear-mongering, it's reality-checking.
Smart milk starts with smarter choices.
