Hurricane Helene Victims in North Carolina Denied Federal Relief—Thanks, Trump!

Over the weekend, North Carolina residents impacted by Hurricane Helene received a gut punch: a denial of benefits from the Trump administration. While Joe Biden made good on promises to help victims, FEMA under Trump flatly denied the Hurricane Helene relief match dollars for the state of North Carolina.

Usually, the federal government matches 100% of the cost of hurricane relief. Not this time. In a letter shared by the governor of North Carolina, it was made clear that the government did not see it warranted to match relief dollars. This denial is delaying recovery efforts for Western North Carolina residents who are still reeling from the damage.

And of course, FEMA didn’t respond to questions about this decision. Oh, and by the way, Hurricane season is just around the corner, and most of the people affected by the last hurricane still haven't fully recovered.
