In Iowa, more farmers filed for bankruptcy in the first three months of 2025 than in the entire year of 2024
Here’s something worth thinking about:
In Iowa, more farmers filed for bankruptcy in the first three months of 2025 than in the entire year of 2024. Sounds like tariffs might be one cause.
Farmers are filing under Chapter 12—the same federal code that lets them restructure debts and try to survive. This rings a bell for anyone who knows about the 1980s farm crisis when banks swooped in to “help” farmers restructure loans they could never pay back. Guess who ended up benefiting? Corporate agriculture.
And here’s the kicker: JD Vance, yes that JD Vance, started or is part owner of a company called Ag Trader. This business buys up distressed farms. Convenient, right?
So the president’s policies hurt small farmers, while the VP’s linked business cashes in on their misfortune.
Sounds like a perfect storm for corporate takeover.
