Jan 6 Rioters Demand Refund—Because Apparently Accountability Has a Return Policy Now
This is not The Onion.
Prosecutors are now floating the idea that January 6th defendants—the same people who trashed the U.S. Capitol like it was a frat house after midterms—might get their restitution money back.
Yes, the $3 million in damage they caused might be... refunded.
Because apparently, if you scream loud enough about “patriotism,” you get a punch card for free insurrections.
Let’s be clear:
This isn’t about fines for loitering.
This is cold, hard restitution—money paid by convicted criminals to repair the very building they stormed because they couldn’t accept that elections are a thing.
And now… some folks want to treat this like a refundable security deposit?
Why it matters:
According to Politico, even a presidential pardon doesn’t mean you’re owed a check.
A pardon erases the legal punishment—it doesn't erase the damage done.
And it definitely doesn’t mean the taxpayers should foot the bill because Chad wanted to cosplay George Washington in a buffalo hat.
What’s next?
Do we let bank robbers sue for emotional damages because the vault was hard to crack?
Do we give arsonists store credit for fireproof buildings?
If this idea gains traction, it sets a surreal precedent:
You can overthrow democracy and get a refund for your trouble.
America, we’ve officially entered the "customer service" phase of political extremism.
“Sorry you didn’t like the outcome of the election—here’s your restitution back and a coupon for your next riot.”
