Private Prisons Are Cashing In on Trump’s Mass Detentions
As this comment points out, instead of just denying entry or sending people back, we’re detaining them. Why? Because there’s money to be made.
🔴 Trump’s Mass Deportation Plan was sold as a “go back where you came from” operation. But instead of just deporting people, we’re seeing an explosion of detentions—even for tourists and legal visa holders.
💰 Follow the Money:
ICE just awarded a $1B, 15-year contract to GEO Group, a for-profit prison company.
Opening just one new facility in New Jersey is expected to generate $500–600M per year.
CoreCivic, another private prison giant, is tripling its bed capacity—potentially raking in $1.5B more.
About 90% of ICE detainees are held in private, for-profit facilities—so these companies stand to make a fortune.
🎭 The Political Payback
Why would Trump care? These companies bankrolled his campaign.
GEO Group gave $2M+ to GOP PACs backing Trump and House Republicans.
CoreCivic handed over $500K to Trump’s inaugural committee.
Unlike past elections, where private prisons donated to both parties, this time, it was almost entirely Republican money.
So, why are people being detained instead of deported? Because there’s no profit in deportation.
Politicians lie. But the money trail never does.
