Republicans: “Fiscal Conservatives” Who Just Trashed Their Own Promise.
Here in Alexandria, Virginia, just a stone’s throw from our nation’s capital, the Republicans are busy celebrating their latest achievement: making life harder for the less fortunate. The target? Medicare and Medicaid—two lifelines for millions of Americans. Meanwhile, the president’s off in the Oval Office, chuckling with his billionaire buddies about how market manipulation has successfully moved billions from your 401(k) straight into their personal accounts. Oh, and this is all happening just like Jesus would have wanted, right?
A Truly “Fiscal” Victory
But the cherry on top? The fiscally responsible Republicans promised $2 trillion in spending cuts. What did they deliver? A grand total of $4 billion—that’s 0.2% of what they promised and what the American people voted for. It’s so tiny that they had to work some backroom magic to get it passed, including promises to still cut spending on the poor just to make sure they hit their “target.”
Debt? What Debt?
Oh, and about that “fiscally responsible” rhetoric? Well, the debt’s getting a 25% increase, compared to February’s numbers, adding an additional $7 trillion to the deficit over the next decade. Fiscally responsible? Not so much.
So, if any of the Republicans are feeling a little lost about their identity crisis, don’t worry. I’m right here, taking new patients, ready to help them figure out who they really are.
