Scott Galloway Nails It on Class and Power in America
You ever come across someone who says exactly what you've been thinking but way more eloquently? That’s exactly what happened when I heard Scott Galloway talk about this.
Here’s the bottom line: The rich in America are protected by the law, but they're not bound by it. Meanwhile, the poor are bound by the law, but not protected by it.
If you're in the 1%, your rights and democracy have never been better. But the point of the U.S. Constitution and democracy is to protect the bottom fifth—the ones most vulnerable.
This explains so much about what's happening today:
Why the Republican Party still gets support despite being anti-worker, anti-union, anti-minimum wage, and anti-women.
Why women vote Republican even when the party’s policies are harmful to them.
Why immigrants support Republicans despite their hostility towards them.
They all believe that they’re somehow going to make it to that upper class, where the laws won't apply to them. They think they’ll have enough money to avoid the consequences of these laws.
The truth is, most of us are never going to make that kind of money in our lifetimes, especially if we keep electing people who are hostile to our interests.
Our goal? To ensure the laws apply to and protect all of us.
