Social Security to Use X (formerly Twitter) for Announcements. Is This Insane?
Yes, you read that right. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has officially decided to ditch traditional communication methods and use X (formerly Twitter) to make announcements. From now on, instead of issuing press releases or posting updates on their website, the SSA will be communicating with the public and the press exclusively through X.
This was confirmed by Linda Carrie Davis, the SSA’s Midwest regional commissioner, in a call with employees. She made it clear: X is now their official communication mechanism.
But here’s the kicker: Elderly people, many of whom rely on Social Security, will now have to create and manage a Twitter account just to stay updated on their benefits. In case you missed it—elderly people. We're asking a population that may struggle with technology to use a social media platform to get crucial information about their Social Security checks.
How ridiculous is this? The very demographic that needs updates the most—those who depend on Social Security—is now expected to navigate Twitter for their essential info. This feels like a massive disconnect between the government and the people it's supposed to serve.
