Targeting Elderly Green Card Holders: The New Administration Tactic
Word on the street is that this administration has a new target: elderly green card holders. What’s going down? They’re stopping elderly travelers at airports, interrogating them about their trips, and then pressuring them into abandoning their green cards by signing a form called Form I-407.
This form is essentially a record of abandonment. Once a green card holder, always a green card holder, even if the card expires. The only way you lose that status is if you officially abandon it or if a judge decides to revoke it.
But here’s where it gets shady: They're specifically going after people from India, but don’t be fooled. This could easily expand to other immigrant groups, especially those who travel frequently—like the Caribbean community. Imagine elderly Jamaican or Haitian immigrants being targeted during their trips back home.
It’s a tactic to strip immigrants of their rights and increase the pressure for deportation. So, if you or someone you know holds a green card, keep an eye out. This could happen to anyone.
Stay vigilant—this could be just the beginning of a broader push to undermine immigrant rights.
