Tennessee’s New Law: Vote the “Wrong” Way, Go to Jail?
Oh, so this is how democracy dies—not with a bang, but with a felony charge.
Tennessee lawmakers just introduced HB 6001, a bill that basically says:
"If you vote the wrong way, congratulations, you’re now a criminal."
Excuse me?! So, let’s say you’re an elected official in Tennessee, and you vote to make your town a sanctuary city—because, you know, that’s what your constituents want. BAM. Felony charges. Removed from office.
America, But Make It a Dictatorship
The bill creates a new "immigrant enforcement division", which already sounds like some dystopian nonsense. But here’s the real kicker: If an elected official even votes in favor of sanctuary city policies, they could face criminal charges. A felony.
So just to clarify—you, a politician, are now literally not allowed to vote how you think is right without risking jail time.
Uh… WHAT?
Justin Jones Calls It What It Is
Representative Justin Jones came out swinging, calling it exactly what it is:
"Authoritarianism. Punishing people for how they vote is un-American."
And the Tennessee committee STILL approved it. Now it moves on to the next step, where more lawmakers will decide if democracy should just, you know, cease to exist in their state.
Tennessee, Y’all Good Over There?
Are we just openly throwing democracy in the trash now? Is this the new normal? Because making voting itself a crime is a level of dictatorship I didn’t think we’d be discussing in 2025.
What do you think? Should politicians be arrested for how they vote? Or is this the biggest dumpster fire of a bill we’ve seen yet? Let me know.
