Texas: Land of Oil, Bootstraps, and... Federal Freeloading?
Y’all. Let’s talk about Texas for a second.
The state that loves to brag about rugged independence, oil dominance, and “we don’t need the feds”—is actually... on federal welfare. Yep, you heard that right.
Despite producing nearly half the nation’s oil, Texas consistently receives more from the federal government than it pays in taxes. In 2022 alone, that worked out to about $1,500 more per Texan in federal benefits than Texans paid to Uncle Sam.
So for every Texan yelling about “freeloaders,” maybe take a peek at the receipts. Because Texas, honey, you are the freeloader.
Meanwhile, you know which state gets the least back for what they send to D.C.?
That liberal, regulation-loving, taxed-to-the-max California.
Turns out they're the ones keeping the lights on across red America.
Let’s be clear: Texas isn’t the worst offender (shoutout to Mississippi and Kentucky), but when the rallying cry is “don’t give handouts to people who didn’t earn it,” maybe we should look at which states are actually cashing the federal checks.
So tell us, Texas:
Are you ready to live within your means and give up the billions in federal help?
Or are you gonna keep pretending you’re a self-made cowboy—while riding a horse paid for by California?
