Trump Admin Wants to Defund Head Start—Because Who Needs Educated Kids Anyway?

According to an internal draft budget obtained by the Associated Press, the Trump administration is asking Congress to completely eliminate funding for Head Start—a program that provides early childhood education and care for over half a million of the nation’s neediest children.

Yes, you read that right.

While billionaires get tax breaks and the Pentagon gets blank checks, low-income toddlers are being told to go fend for themselves. The draft is part of a 64-page plan to make deep cuts to the Department of Health and Human Services, the agency that oversees Head Start.

Now sure, this is all still “preliminary” and for fiscal year 2026, so it’s not law—yet. But if the past few years have taught us anything, it’s this:
