Trump's Hypocrisy: The Real “Advantage” Game
Trump’s claim that China is taking advantage of the United States is about as rich as a billionaire complaining about how much money they have.
Let’s break this down: Why are those cheaper goods from China so problematic? Are we really going to call it “taking advantage” when American businesses and the U.S. government have profited off those cheap imports for decades through income tax and sales tax?
China’s government didn’t just wake up and decide to make cheap goods. They’ve strategically built an export-oriented economy, developed a skilled workforce, and created manufacturing cities to support that growth. This was a well-thought-out, long-term strategy.
Meanwhile, the U.S. has done the same thing to developing countries, like those in Latin America. By promoting the production of plantation crops like coffee, palm oil, and bananas, the U.S. manipulated the World Bank to push countries into export-oriented economies. So, before parroting the right-wing mantra that these countries are taking advantage of the U.S., let's remember: we took advantage of them first.
Seems like the real advantage was ours all along.
