What Do We Think About Military Parades?

So, here’s the deal: If you live or work around Washington, D.C., mark your calendars for June 14th because the streets are about to get a serious makeover.

Why? Well, it's Donald Trump's birthday, and in classic Trump fashion, he's decided to throw himself a military parade to celebrate. The kicker? He’s spending $92 million of taxpayers' money to make it happen.

Now, the White House says it's also to mark the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary—but let's be honest here, Trump’s been wanting this birthday parade since his first term. And, well, this time around, there’s nobody left to tell him "no".

So what does that mean for D.C. residents?

Expect tanks rumbling through the streets, aircraft flying overhead, and military personnel marching like it’s a scene out of a military dictatorship. Oh, and if you’re wondering, this isn’t even the first time he’s tried this stunt—it was a bust last time, but we all know how persistent he can be.

In a way, at least it’ll be for a parade and not a Civil War. But hey, who knows? When you’re celebrating in style with tanks and jets, you start to blur the lines between celebrating freedom and authoritarianism.

What do you think about all this? Is this really how we should be honoring our military, or does it feel like another glorification of power?
