Why wouldn't we raise the minimum wage to $25 an hour?

Some say, “Oh, that’ll crush small businesses.” Nope.

Look at states like Washington and California — they bumped wages to $12 or $15, and guess what? Their economies didn’t collapse; they grew.

Why? Because low-income workers spend their paychecks. They don’t stash it away. That spending ripples through the economy — a multiplier effect.

Also, if minimum wage had just kept up with inflation and productivity, it’d already be about $23 an hour.

Meanwhile, giant corporations like McDonald’s and Walmart might see their stock dip — and that’s okay.

Corporate profits are at an all-time high, while wages as a percentage of GDP are at historic lows.

Minimum wage at $25, federally mandated — it’s about time.

And here’s the real kicker: this is one thing we agree on. Power belongs to the people.
