Zuck’s Latest “Brilliant” Idea: Wipe Everyone’s Facebook Friends and Start Over
Just when it seemed like Mark Zuckerberg couldn’t get any more out of touch, he floats the idea of wiping EVERYONE’S Facebook friends and making users start from scratch to “boost the platform’s relevance.” Yep, you read that right.
This mind-boggling suggestion came to light during his testimony in a U.S. government lawsuit against Meta for anticompetitive practices. The government’s trying to force Zuck to sell Instagram and WhatsApp, and it’s during this trial that leaked emails revealed his genius idea.
Zuck, who’s spent the last decade preaching that his platforms’ core mission is to connect people, proposed something straight out of a dystopian tech nightmare: “wipe everyone’s graphs”—meaning your friends, your memories, your connections—and just let everyone start fresh.
Thankfully, cooler heads (and possibly some people who still remember Facebook’s original appeal) pushed back, and the idea was never implemented. But the fact that Zuck even considered it shows just how far he’s willing to go to stay relevant in a world that’s quickly moving past his empire. Here’s to hoping someone takes his login away for a bit.
It’s one thing to make billions off people’s data, but erasing their entire social existence? Now that's next-level desperation.
